Guwahati: By aiming to exchange the rich culture of North Eastern region with rest of the country, a programme of Assam Gujarat Cultural Convergence was held at Bokajan in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.
Union Minister of State for Communication Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan on Friday night took part in the Assam Gujarat cultural convergence.
Various cultural troupes of the North Eastern India including Garo, Naga, Manipuri, Assamese, Bengali community and Gujarat had performed their cultural dances in the programme.
While the cultural troupes from Gujarat danced in Assamese bihu, the troupes of North Eastern region also took part in traditional Garba dance.
The Union minister, Deputy Speaker of Assam assembly and local MLA Dr Numal Momin, Gujarat MP Dipsinh Shankarsinh Rathod were also seen to take part in dance.
Union Minister of State for Communication Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan said that, it is an exchange of culture between Assam and Gujarat.
“In fact we are one. Whether there is diversity in India, even though culturally we are different, we have different languages, dresses, foods, but after all we are Indian. We should come together through this type of cultural activity, exchange cultural activity,” Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan said.
On the other hand, Deputy Speaker of Assam assembly Dr Numal Momin said that - "We are trying to exchange our culture with other parts of the country."
"The programme held at Bokajan is very unique. Different tribes, communities of North Eastern region and Gujarat had showcased its culture in the programme," Dr Numal Momin said.
The Union Minister of State for Communication further said that, the Modi government is committed and responsible to improve connectivity in the North Eastern region.
“Our ministry is more responsible and active to do the connectivity in the North Eastern region,” Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan said.
He further said that, the centre under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special focused on North East region.
