Congress calls PM "Mounendra Modi" for his silence over Lakhimpur Kheri violence
Bengaluru/UNI: Ahead of the silent protest demanding immediate dismissal of MoS Home Ajay Mishra Teni in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy Monday addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "Mounendra Modi" for his "stoic silence" over the issue.
"PM Modi has not even once spoken to protesting farmers, who are staging a dharna for over a year against three farm laws. He has also maintained a steadied silence on price rise and many other issues including Covid," he told reporters.
"Therefore, I feel that he should be henceforth called Mounendra Modi, instead of Narendra Modi," he added.
Reddy said MoS Mishra should immediately resign from PM Modi's ministry as enough evidence is available to prove the involvement of his son Ashish in the "inhuman" act of killing protesting farmers by running a car over them.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee jointly held a silent protest demanding immediate dismissal of MoS for Home Ajay Mishra Teni in connection with Lakhimpur Kheri violence in Uttar Pradesh.
The members of Youth Congress and Congress party observed a minute’s silence in remembrance of the deceased farmers who were mowed down by a car belonging to Mishra.
Placards with slogans demanding Mishra’s dismissal and cartoons depicting the ruling BJP’s apathy towards farmers were displayed.
Addressing the protest, IYC President BV Sreenivasa said the party would not stop at staging silent protests, but continue to raise this issue on every platform anytime. "Our next course of action will jail bharo andolan in the days to come," he said.
Sreenivasa alleged that the UP government was providing royal treatment to the accused, while victims were being targeted unnecessarily.
The Congress has a rich legacy of launching many protests and stirs of all magnitude and neither the Congress nor its leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will ever be deterred by any threats, he said.
KPYCC President Raksha Ramaiah said the party will stop fighting until the BJP-led central and state governments are ousted in near future.
"We will ensure the arrogant BJP pays price for their obnoxious display of arrogance against helpless farmers in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
