Bengaluru/IBNS: Actor Puneeth Rajkumar was buried in Bengaluru on Sunday morning in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and several top actors from the Kannada film industry.

Bommai, who earlier oversaw state honour accorded to the actor, gave the 'final salute' ahead of the funeral at Sree Kanteerava Studios in state capital Bengaluru.

"Actor Puneeth Rajkumar's funeral was held in Bangalore's Kantirava studio premises this morning with government honors. The flag was handed over to Ashwini's wife Ashwini," the Chief Minister wrote.

The chief minister gave a farewell kiss to the actor whom he had known as a child.

"Renowned actor Puneet Rajkumar, who passed away on Friday, was said to have said goodbye to his body after his final visit.  Be born again ..." Bommai said.

The funeral was postponed Saturday as the actor's daughter Druthi was flying in from New York and to give more time for fans unable to pay their final respects.

Kannada star and celebrity television host Puneeth Rajkumar's death at 46 following a heart attack on Friday sent shockwaves across the nation.

Puneeth Rajkumar, known for his social commitment, had donated his eyes like his father who had himself pledged his entire family's eyes back in 1994.
