Rakesh Tikait warns of consequences if protesting farmers 'forcibly' removed from Delhi borders

New Delhi/IBNS: Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on Sunday warned the Centre of consequences if protesters are forcibly removed from Delhi borders.

He said that farmers would then turn government offices across the country into "galla mandis" (grain markets).

In a tweet in Hindi, Tikait wrote: "If there is an attempt to forcibly remove the farmers from the borders, then they will make government offices across the country into Galla Mandi."

Tikait's statement comes two days after the Delhi Police removed cemented blocks and barricades from the Ghazipur and Tikri borders.

This stretch was shut for over 11 months since the time farmers' protest started. Commuters have been citing inconvenience during their travelling.

Earlier the Supreme Court had said that the authorities and not the protesting farmers were responsible for the inconvenience caused.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the three border points in Delhi - Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur- against the Centre's three contentious farm laws since Nov 26, 2020.
