Tripura BJP MLA Ashish Das, TMC turncoat Rajib Banerjee join TMC in Abhishek Banerjee's Agartala rally

Agartala/IBNS: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajib Banerjee and former BJP MLA Ashish Das joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) at the party's public meeting in Tripura.

He was earlier a minister in Mamata Banerjee's government and was inducted into the nationals executive committee of the BJP this month.

Banerjee said he would work under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee and regretted his decision to join the BJP.

The change of heart happened after he realised he could not accept "the politics of hatred and divisive ideology propagated by BJP," he said.

Ashish Das had been critical of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and even shaved his head saying he was performing penance ahead of his induction into TMC.

After BJP failed to seize power in West Bengal in the May assembly elections, many TMC turncoats rejoined the party while many BJP loyalists like Babul Supriyo also joined the ranks of Mamata Banerjee's party.
