Terrorists threaten to blow up 46 railway stations across UP
Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh police has sounded a high alert after a letter from a terrorist organisation threatened to blow up 46 railway stations in the state, here, on Monday.
In the letter received by the authorities in the name of terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, which said that 46 railway stations including Lucknow, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Shamli, Bijnore would be blown off.
There is also an intelligence report of possible terrorist attacks on railway properties. Security has been increased at all railway stations across UP.
Police sources on Monday said that after receiving the alert, RPF, GRP and police along with their dog squads checked the security arrangements at all railway stations including Lucknow and Kanpur. Apart from this, an intensive search operation is also being conducted.
However, railway officials say that it is not the first time that such a threat has been received. There have been threats to blow up stations in the past as well. The threat received this time is also being taken seriously and vigil has been increased.
Senior officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP said that the letter has been sent in the name of the area commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has threatened to blow up these railway stations.
In 2018, a similar threat was given by the same terrorist organisation, they said.
An intensive search operation is being conducted in all the trains passing through the station as well as the trains originating here, they said.
Police said after receiving the threat letter, instructions have been given to the RPF and GRP that to stop and search any person acting suspiciously and if necessary also detain them.
