India could play vital role in fighting IS : US

India Blooms News Service | | 26 Jan 2015, 05:49 pm
New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS) The US on Monday said India is increasingly prepared to engage on global security issues and could play a role in fighting the Islamic State.
"When you look at our broader counter-terrorism cooperation and how we're tracking the flow of fighters and terrorist financing, there I do think we want to find space for cooperation,"  US Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters here.

Rhodes, who is travelling in India with President Barack Obama, said rather than deploying troops, India's involvement could be in intelligence on the flow of money and militants to the IS.

His comment came after Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi together watched a colourful Republic Day parade by combined forces and a dazzling fly past by Indian Air Force personnel.

Obama was the first U.S. president to attend India's Republic Day parade in Delhi's Rajpath.
