Vijayawada/UNI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the floods have impacted nearly 95,000 families in four districts of the state and they should receive financial assistance immediately.

He instructed the District Collectors to monitor the relief works.

The Chief Minister held a video conference with the District Collectors of flood affected districts here on Wednesday and reviewed the progress of relief works.

He instructed the officials to take measures to ensure that there is no problem with regard to drinking water and electricity.

Reddy instructed the officials to give a wide publicity about the ‘104’ helpline number and officials should take those calls and respond immediately.

The Chief Minister said compensation for death of livestock should be given immediately and added that cattle should be vaccinated and fodder should be distributed.

He also instructed the officials to expedite the process of payment of compensation for those whose houses were completely damaged and partially damaged within the next 3–4 days and added that new houses should be sanctioned for completely damaged houses.

Reddy said an amount Rs 95,000 should be paid as compensation for those who lost their houses and directed the officials to sanction Rs 1.80 lakh each for constructing new houses.

He also directed the officials to complete crop enumeration on a war-footing and said District Collectors should submit reports on restoration of roads.

An action plan should be prepared to start work, he said, in the meantime, temporary works should be undertaken immediately to avoid any disruption to transport.

The Chief Minister said Annamayya project should be designed to release 2.85 lakh cusecs of water, instead of designing to release only 2.17 lakh cusecs of water.

He said the project received an inflow of 3.25 lakh cusecs of flood water triggering breach of the project.

Reddy said a report was submitted in 2017 regarding the Annamayya Project to improve the quality of the dam and it was neglected by the then previous TDP government.

He said the discharge capacity of Pincha project was 58,000 cusecs while the project received an inflow of 1.38 lakh cusecs of floodwater.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to take measures anticipating similar floods in the future and redesign the Annamayya Project considering the current inflows.

He also instructed the officials not to lose confidence due to political criticism and provide services to the victims.

Reddy directed the officials to focus on the safety of irrigation projects in 13 districts and asked to refer the reports submitted by the previous governments on the safety of the dams and prepare new reports considering data related to current water discharge capacity and maximum flood flow estimates.

He said the incidents like Annamayya project breach should not happen in the future and directed the officials to take all necessary measures in this regard.

The Chief Minister instructed the officials to be vigilant in the wake of heavy rains forecast in Nellore and Prakasam districts for four days from November 26 and make necessary arrangements.

The District collectors informed the Chief Minister that they have expedited the programme of providing essential commodities to 95,949 flood-affected families and added that providing Rs 2,000 financial assistance to all flood affected families is almost completed.

YSR Kadapa district Collector informed the Chief Minister that they have restored power in 155 villages and drinking water is being supplied through tankers.
