Jammu and Kashmir: Militant, associate arrested in Sopore

Srinagar/UNI: An active militant and his associate were arrested during a cordon and a search operation in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district, officials said.

The duo were arrested by joint teams of forces from Ningli area of Sopore, following a tip-off about their presence.

"Acting on specific input regarding the presence of terrorist in Ningli area of Sopore, a cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 52 RR and 177Bn CRPF in the said area. During the search operation, the terrorist and his associate were challenged by the search party however they tried to escape from the spot but the alert search party apprehended them tactfully," a police spokesman said.

They have been identified as Towfeeq Kaboo, resident of Kaboo Mohalla Arampora Sopore and his associate Bilal Ahmad Kaloo, resident of Takiabal Sopore.

Police have registered a case under relevant Sections of law and further investigation has been taken up.

On Sunday, two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were arrested in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
They were hiding in a school at Doomwani near Rambi Ara Village, Shopian when a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Police and Army.
