Top NDFB(S) ultra killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati, Jan 28 (IBNS) : A top leader of NDFB(S) and most wanted extremist of the Assam police was killed in a gun battle with the cops in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

Assam police IGP of BTAD Dr LR Bisnoi said that the gun battle took place at Ripu reserve forest area near Nabhinagar under Kachugaon police station in the BTAD district at around 9. 15 pm.

"Based on intelligence input Assam police commando led by Dr LR Bisnoi and Kokrajhar district SP had launched operation at the remote reserve forest area when four members militant group was trying to flee to West Bengal. When troops reached the area the militants started firing to security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets in which a top NDFB(S) leader was killed, " the top police official said.

Other militants had managed to flee from the gun battle site with the help of darkness.

The deceased militant was identified as Jankla alias Jorneluish Narzary, who is a Sergeant major of the outfit group and allegedly involved in the killing of 16-year -old girl Priya Basumutary in Baska district last year.

The police have recovered a 7.65mm pistol with magazine, four rounds live ammunition, two hand grenades in possession from the slain militant.

The security forces continued operation at the remote area to nab the fled militants.

On Dec 23 last year NDFB(S) militants had killed more than 80 innocent tribal people in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur district.
