Guwahati/UNI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case in connection with an alleged recruitment scam in Assam Rifles in Assam’s Jorhat district.
The CBI on Tuesday has registered the case (no – RC0172021A0013) under section 8, 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruptio Act 1988, 120/420 of IPC, 8 & 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 at its ACB office in Guwahati.
The Assam police had originally registered the case (no – 3121/2019) in 2019 at Jorhat police station and the CBI has taken over the case upon request from the state government.
According to the FIR, a department inquiry by Vigilance Branch , Headquarter, DG of Assam Rifles, Shillong had found that one Yashwant Kumar (teacher) of Jendaha village in Bihar’s Vaishali district was acting as a middleman/fixer for aspirants for recruitment into Assam Rifles in league with some personnel including doctor of Assam Rifles.
During the departmental vigilance inquiry, witnesses and voice call records revealed that the teacher had been working in coordination with some Assam Rifles personnel to cheat innocent youths by taking bribes for selection of short listed candidates and audio clips revealing details of such money transactions and false promises have been found.
“Yashwant Kumar in connivance with some unknown Assam Rifles used to bring aspirants for recruitment at Jorhat during the recruitment rally and deliver bribe money to the officers of the unknown officials of Assam Rifles including doctors of Assam Rifles,” said in the FIR copy of CBI.
It also stated that, the allegations mentioned in the FIR 3121/2019 dated 4-11-2019 of Jorhat police station registered on the basis of the complaint.
