"Cheap comment": Kiren Rijiju condemns actor Siddharth's tweet on Saina Nehwal's post
New Delhi/IBNS: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju spoke out in support of badminton star Saina Nehwal against a sexist tweet by actor Siddharth on her post condemning the recent security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab where his convoy had to wait on a flyover for 20 minutes due to a protest on his route.
"No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists," Saina, an Olympic Bronze medallist, tweeted.
Replying to Saina's post Siddharth had tweeted, "Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. Folded hands. Shame on you Rihanna."
He, however, maintained that his tweet bore no insinuation and was not meant to disrespect anyone.
Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. 🙏🏽

Condemning Siddharth's remarks, Kiren Rijiju, who was Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister before he was appointed Law Minister, praised Nehwal for being a "steadfast patriot besides being an Olympic medallist."
"India is proud of Saina Nehwal for her outstanding contributions in making India a sporting powerhouse. She is a steadfast patriot besides being an Olympic medallist. Making a cheap comment on such an icon personality depicts a person's ignoble mentality," Rijiju tweeted.

However, Siddhart's attempt to lay the controversy to rest hasn't stopped the condemnations.
National Commission for Women's chairperson Rekha Sharma has said she would take up the matter with the police.
This man needs a lesson or two. @TwitterIndia why this person's account still exists?..taking it up with Concerned police. https://t.co/qZD2NY5n3X

BJP leader Khushbu Sundar said the tweet was "very crass". "...Don't get carried with your hatred towards an individual," Sundar told the actor, who she called a "friend".
