Lata Mangeshkar, hospitalised after testing COVID positive, has pneumonia: Doctor tells media

Mumbai/IBNS: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who has been admitted in ICU at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19, is also suffering from pneumonia, latest media reports said.

According to reports, Mangeshkar has been in hospital since Saturday night.

Dr Pratik Samdhani of  Breach Candy Hospital, who is taking care of the nightingale of India, confirmed the news to ETimes.

"Lata Mangeshkar was admitted on Saturday night and yes she is also suffering from pneumonia," he told the media.

Earlier, her niece Rachna confirmed to IndiaTV that the Bharat Ratna recipient has mild symptoms.

"She is doing fine; has been kept in ICU only for precautionary reasons considering her age. Please respect our privacy and keep Didi in your prayer," Rachna told ANI.

Recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Lata Mangeshkar has recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Hindi and Marathi.

She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour and is only the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to receive this honour.

Mangeshkar ihas been also honoured with three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and many more.
