Mumbai highrise fire leaves 7 dead

Mumbai/UNI: As many as seven people died in a major fire which broke out on the 18th floor of a 20-storey residential building here on Saturday, officials said.

The tragedy occurred in the Kamala residential building near Nana Chowk at Tardeo in central Mumbai.

Seventeen others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Bhatia Hospital. Three of them were warded in the Intensive Care Unit as their condition was said to be critical.

Fire Brigade sources said the fire broke out around 7.30 am. Nineteen residents were rescued.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
