New Delhi/IBNS: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that shots were fired at his car when he was returning to Delhi after campaigning in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.

No one received any injury but his car tyres were punctured, he said.

"We are all safe. Alhamdu'lilah," he wrote on Twitter.

According to media reports, one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at a toll plaza near Delhi in western Uttar Pradesh.

There were three-to-four shooters, who left their weapons and escaped, said the Hyderabad MP.

In a tweet, he wrote, "A few minutes ago, four rounds of shots were fired at my car. There were 3-4 people who fled the spot but left their weapons. My car's tires were punctured and I left the spot in another vehicle. We are all safe."

He also shared an image of the bullet-hit car in the tweet.

The AIMIM leader was returning after addressing a public meeting in Meerut while campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh election starting Feb 10.
