New Delhi/UNI: Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday rejected Z category security offered to him following an attack on his car last night, and urged PM Narendra Modi-led government to make the country safer him and others.
Owaisi, whose car was attacked in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, questioned in the lower House who were the people who believed in bullets and not ballots.
"Different political parties are there in different states but who are these people who believe in bullets not ballots? Who are these people who have been so radicalized that they don't believe in this Constitution. Who are these people? I will not make a political comment, I will leave it to you," he said.
"I am two-time MLA, four time MP, if this is how politics will progress, that car stops at toll gate and bullets are fired. I want to ask how did these youth get so radicalised?" he said.
Owaisi warned government against right wing radicalisation and said, "This is why I urged government in 2015 that they should have counter radicalisation cells for people from all religion in the internal security department in MHA."
"Radicalisation will increase with right wing communalism. You are repeating the mistake that NDA-I did, it will prove harmful to you," he said.
"The people who are radicalising, why aren't they being booked under UAPA?" he said.
"Love is the biggest asset India has, there is one India which is prospering on love, and there is on which is being created with hatred," he said.
"If you look at the India which has love, bullets will not be needed to shut my mouth. You can see what was said about me I don't want Z class security, I am not scared of death. If the poor, downtrodden, the minorities are safe I am safe," he said.
Home Minister Amit Shah will brief the Lok Sabha on Monday over the incident, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said.
Several MPs, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal said they prayed for the MP's safety.
"It is the sentiment of the house, we are very thankful to god he escaped unharmed. We pray for his long life, so that he can serve the country," Goyal said.
"The state govt took action immediately, the accused were arrested and the vehicle and arms were seized and action is being take," he said.
Two people have been arrested for firing at the car of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief, while he was returning to Delhi after campaigning in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Thursday.
Speaker Om Birla had called Owaisi after the incident and the AIMIM leader thanked him for his concern.
