New Delhi/UNI: The government on Wednesday claimed in Parliament that incidents of Maoist violence have reduced by 77 percent over the last 12 years and the "Maoist ideology is fast approaching its end" in India.

"The incidents of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) violence have been reduced by 77 percent from an all time high of 2258 in 2009 to 509 in 2021.

"Similarly, the resultant deaths (civilians and security forces) have been reduced by 85% from an all time high of 1005 in 2010 to 147 in 2021," Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed Rajya Sabha.

Further, the minister said, "The geographical spread of the violence has also been reduced and only 46 districts reported LWE related violence in 2021 as compared to 96 districts in 2010."

The minister gave credit to the steadfast implementation of the new National Policy and Action Plan introduced by the Narendra Modi government in 2015.

He said that Maoism has always been inspired by international organisations and ideologues.

"If a legal action is initiated on the issue, international organisations raise the matter and also come forward to help them. CPI Maoist outfit is part of the Maoist ecosystem," the minister said.

The minister said that the Maoist ideology doesn't believe in democracy, they want dictatorship with the use of guns.

"The ideology of India is creative and humanistic" he said.

BJP MP Rakesh Sinha said that some people under the garb of journalists and educationists are promoting Naxalism In india.

"Some mainstream political parties are supporting urban naxals in the country," Sinha said inviting prompt opposition from Congress benches.
