New Delhi/IBNS: The voting dates of the two-phased Manipur Assembly elections have been changed, the Election Commission announced Thursday.

Voting will now be held on February 28 and March 5 instead of the earlier schedule of February 27 and March 3.

This comes as several tribal groups and political parties had asked the Election Commission to revise the voting dates since Feb 27, the first phase, fell on a Sunday, which would have affected church services.

Christian community comprise 41 per cent of Manipur's three-million population.

The Election Commission in a statement on Thursday said a team went to Manipur and reviewed the election preparations.
"The Commission, having considered inputs, representations, past precedents, logistic, ground situations and all facts and circumstances in the matter, has decided... to revise the dates of poll..." the Election Commission said.
The counting of votes will take place on March 10 along with four other poll-bound states.
