Jammu and Kashmir: Two women hurt in Srinagar knife attack

Srinagar/UNI: Two girls were injured in a knife attack in Srinagar on Friday, police said.

Two unidentified men barged into a house around 1 pm in Mominabad near District Court Srinagar with intention of theft and tied up three female occupants.

However, one of the girls managed to escape. She scampered out screaming.

There were injuries to her forehead and on hand made with sharp-edged object, the police said. Neighbours hearing her cries rushed to the rescue.

They caught hold of one of the accused who was handed over to the police later. Another of the attackers managed to escape.

Police recovered a knife from the sport, locals said. One of the injured said she was attacked with the knife and when she tried to flee, receiving a deep cut on her hand.

This was the second attack on the said family in recent times, neighbours said. They also alleged that the thieves were believed to be the drug peddlers.

During the earlier theft attempt, the residents alleged that cash and jewellery were stolen from the house. Police said the accused nabbed has been identified as Umar Yousuf Wani. .

“The accused namely Umer Yousuf Wani who trespassed a house and tried to attack two girls in Batmaloo area has been arrested by police in a swift action. Crime against Women will not be tolerated at all,” police tweeted.

The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment, they said.
