Six arrested in Bajrang Dal activist's murder case in Karnataka, police say all have criminal records

Bengaluru/IBNS: Six people have been arrested for the murder of 25-year-old Harsha, who was a member of the right-wing Bajrang Dal, after the incident set off a huge row in Karnataka.

According to the police, all those arrested have criminal records and more than 12 people were detained for questioning.
Of the arrested men, three have already committed murders in the past and all are residents of Shivamogga town where Harsha, who worked as a tailor, was stabbed by unidentified persons around 9 pm on Sunday night.
The arrested are aged between 20 and 22 years. "They all have a criminal past. Investigation is underway," Superintendent of Police Laxmi Prasad told media.

The motive, however, is not yet known.
Meanwhile, curfew has been extended till Friday morning in Shivamogga, where violence erupted on Monday during the funeral procession of Harsha.
Around 5,000 people attended the procession which was marked by vehicles being set on fire, stone-pelting and eventually lathicharge by the police.
The Karnataka government ruled out any possibility of the murder being linked to the hijab row in the state but the state home minister said "all angles including the hijab row" will be investigated.
"Organisations behind the hijab row are also under the scanner, their role is also being looked at. Legal action will be taken against those who engaged in stone pelting yesterday," said state Home Minister Araga Dnyanendra.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blamed Congress for Harsha's murder.
BJP legislator and Secretary to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Renukacharya, blamed the "provocative statements" of Congress leaders D K Shivakumar and B K Hariprasad for the killing of Harsha.

He urged the Home Minister to transfer the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
