Srinagar: J&K Police have arrested eight militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba in Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
They said a module of LeT was busted in Pulwama district of south Kashmir by arresting six militant associates.
The militant associates - all residents of different villages of Pulwama - were identified by Police as Rouf Ahmad Lone, Aqib Maqbool Bhat, Javaid Ahmad Dar, Arshid Ahmad Mir, Rameez Raja and Sajad Ahmad Dar.
“During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that these arrested terrorist associates were involved in providing logistics, shelter, managing and transferring terror finance and motivating youth to act as hybrid terrorists,” a police statement said.
“The investigating team also learnt that they were working for terrorist commander Reyaz Ahmad Dar alias Khalid alias Sheeraz of terror outfit LeT, resident of Sethergund Kakapora, Pulwama and were in constant touch with him,” it added.
Police said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kakapora and investigation has been initiated. In a separate operation, two militant associates were arrested in neighbouring Shopian district.
Police said a checkpoint was set up today at village Aloora by joint forces following a specific information.
"During naka, movement of two suspects were noticed, who were asked to stop, but they started fleeing away from the spot. The alert troops chased them and arrested both the suspects.
During questioning, they disclosed their name as Sameer Ahmed Bhat of Manzimpura Shopian and Mushtaq Ahmed Lone of Kutpora Shopian affiliated with LeT terrorist outfit," police statement said.
A pistol with a Magazine; an AK 47 magazine with 40 AK live rounds and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession, it added.
A case under relevant of sections of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib Shopian.
