Uttarakhand to implement uniform civil code in state: Pushkar Singh Dhami
Simla/IBNS: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday announced that his government will implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state soon.
"We have decided to implement Uniform Civil Code in the state. The state cabinet unanimously approved that a committee (of experts) will be constituted at the earliest and it will be implemented in the state. This will be the first state to do so," Dhami was quoted as saying by ANI.
Soon after Dhami was named CM of the state after the Assembly polls win of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he had promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state.
"Firstly, I want to thank PM Narendra Modi for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to work as the CM of Uttarakhand for 5 years. We will fulfil all promises, including the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state," he told ANI.
The BJP won 47 seats out of 70 in the Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
