Nitin Gadkari bats for EV charging facility in parliament
New Delhi/IBNS: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari Thursday requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to set up electric charging stations in the parliament premises to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles by the legislators.
Gadkari made the request while responding to a query during the Question Hour.
"I will request the honourable speaker sir, now this is the time for the Parliament, to start electric charging stations on parking spaces giving this facility to the honourable members of the house by which they can purchase electric cars, and can come here to charge their cars, in the Parliament premises," he said.
The minister said that this facility on all government premises will enable more individuals to turn towards green mobility.
However, Speaker Of Lok Sabha Om Birla interrupted Gadkari saying that the members will have to pay to get their cars charged.
Gadkari said that the new parliament building should have rooftop solar panels so that the power accumulated can be used to charge cars for free and the power used by the cars will be completely green.
