Unnao (UP): An 18-year-old nurse was allegedly gang-raped and murdered on the very first day of her work at a private hospital in the Bangarmau area of the Unnao district on Saturday, media reports said.

The victim's family has lodged an FIR, said Gajannath Shukla, officer in charge of Bangarmau police station, reported HT

“We are investigating the matter. The mother of the deceased has named four people in the FIR, including the owner of hospital,” Shukla said.

The mother of the deceased has named four people, including the owner of the hospital, as suspects.

The woman had joined work at the hospital on April 29 and she was on the night shift.

At 11 am on Saturday, some visitors spotted her body hanging by a rope from a bar protruding from a pillar on the roof of the building.

The hospital had opened just a few days ago on April 25 and the woman had rented a room nearby for her stay, police said.

Her family members said the woman had returned to her room since there was no patient in the hospital during the day.

But, the hospital owner allegedly called her at around 10 pm and asked her to do night duty.

When the body was recovered there was a mask on her face and she was clutching a piece of cloth in her hand, additional superintendent of police Shashi Shekhar Singh said, said the report.

“We are trying to find out who put a mask on her face and also details about the cloth,” Singh said, adding that the hospital has been sealed and police are waiting for the autopsy report, according to the HT report.

The nurse’s mother said a call from the hospital informed her daughter had committed suicide.

When she reached the site, it was clear that her daughter had been murdered, she said, according to the report.
