Maharashtra: Three passengers die, 20 others injured as bus falls into gorge in Raigad

Kolhapur: Three passengers, including a woman, were killed on the spot and 20 others were injured when a private bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Ghonse Ghat section in Mhasla tehsil of Raigad district early on Sunday.

A private bus on way to Shreevardhan from Thane fell into about 60 feet gorge in Ghonse Ghat section in Mhasla tehsil of Raigad district early this morning after the bus driver lost control on wheel at a sharp turn.

In this incident, three passengers were killed on the spot and more than 20 others were injured, police said.

Some injured persons were admitted to Mhasla rural hospital while seriously injured were shifted to Mangaon-Ghareshiwadi hospital.

 The deceased were identified as Ashwini Shailesh Birwadkar, Madhukar Birwadkar and Sushant Rikame.

District Guardian Minister Aditi Tatkare visited the hospitals where injured passengers are admitted and enquired about their health.

The death toll is likely to increase as rescue operation was still underway, sources added.
