Punjab: Sidhu Moosewala cremated in Moosa
Mansa: Popular Punjabi singer-turned-politician Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala (28), who was killed by unknown attackers, was cremated at his native Moosa village in Punjab on Tuesday.
At around 0815 hours, the body of Moosewala was brought from civil hospital and was kept at his house in the village where a huge crowd from far-flung places, especially youth, reached to pay tributes.
Carrying photographs of Sidhu Moosewala, one of the most popular and prolific singer-song writer, youth raised slogans 'Sidhu Moosewala Ama Rahe'.
His female fans too came in large number to attend the cremation.
The mother of the singer combed his hair for the last time and his father tied the turban.
His body was taken to his fields, where his last rites were performed by his father, in singer's favourite tractor 5911, which was decorated by his family members with flowers and his photograph.
Several Congress leaders, including Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, accompanied his father and other family members.
The family of Moosewala got emotional on seeing thousands of his fans during cremation and thanked them.
His father Balkour Singh removed his turban and bowed in front of the huge crowd gathered to attend the funeral.
Prominent persons who attended the cremation included Congress Punjab Incharge Harish Chowdhary, PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader Simranjit Singh Mann and many other from the Punjabi music industry.
In a daylight murder, Moosewala was shot dead by unknown assailants near Jawahar Ke village on Sunday. An FIR has been registered against the killers under sections 302, 302 and 341 of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
In the preliminary investigations, Punjab Police linked the murder to an inter-gang rivalry.
In a joint operation, Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) and Punjab STF on Monday detained six persons from Uttarakhand for allegedly providing support to the assailants.
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, a close aide of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, in a post on social media site claimed responsibility for the murder of the popular singer.
