Assam: Lady SI, who arrested her fiance, faces corruption charges
Majuli: A lady sub-inspector, who had last month gotten her fiance arrested over fraud charges, was arrested on Saturday in connection with corruption charges linked to her ex.
Assam Police Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha, who had arrested her fiance on charges of fraud last month in Central Assam's Nagaon district, was arrested by Majuli district police in connection with a case registered at Garmur police station in Majuli district.
She was referred to as "Lady Singham" or "Dabang Cop" after Bollywood movies when she had her fiance arrested.
Gautam Bora, Superintendent of Police of Majuli district said the complaint was lodged by two contractors against her fiance on various charges, including criminal conspiracy and cheating, and also mentioned Rabha's name.
Rabha has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to the complainants, she had introduced them to her fiance, Rana Pogag, but were cheated by him.
Last month, the policewoman had filed an FIR against Pogag, alleging that he had duped some people by promising them jobs and contracts. He was subsequently arrested and is now lodged in Majuli district jail.
Later, allegations surfaced against Rabha that Pogag collected money on her behalf.
A probe was ordered and she was taken into custody and lodged in Majuli district jail.
Rabha was engaged to Pogag in October last year and they were scheduled to be married in November this year.
In January this year, she had run into controversy after her phone conversation with Bihpuria MLA Amiya Kumar Bhuyan leaked. In the leaked audio, they were heard arguing over alleged harassment of the people of his constituency by her, media reports said.
