Mahoba: A woman was beaten black and blue and thrown out of her house by her in-laws in the Sadar area of this Uttar Pradesh district, allegedly for not producing a son.

Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh said Neeraj Prajapati, resident of Ramnagar, was married to Kusuma, resident of Hamirpur.

"After seven years of marriage, Kusuma gave birth to a baby girl. This irked Neeraj and his family members, who were expecting a baby boy. They started torturing Kusuma, who gave birth to another baby girl recently," she said.

On Friday night, Neeraj and his family members taunted Kusuma for not giving birth to a boy and thrashed her.

"Kusuma was thrashed with a stick and thrown out of the house unattended on the road. The passersby informed the police after seeing the victim lying on the road," she added.

Police admitted Kusuma to the hospital.

"Kusuma's statement has been recorded in the hospital, after which an FIR under various sections, including attempt to murder, has been lodged. The matter is being investigated by police," she added.

The SP said that accused Neeraj was said to be absconding after the incident and a police team has been constituted to arrest him.
