New Delhi: The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR against AMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Swami Yati Narsinghanand's for making inflammatory remarks, after a row over suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma's comments on Prophet Muhammad blew up, eliciting global outrage, media reports said.

According to media reports, BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma has been named in one FIR, and Naveen Jindal,  have been booked,  Maulana Mufti Nadeem, Abdur Rehman, Gulzar Ansari, Anil Kumar Meena, Saba Naqvi and Shadab Chauhan have been named in the second FIR.

Police have invoked Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Nupur Sharma.

"We have registered 2 FIRs under appropriate sections on the basis of social media analysis against those trying to disrupt public tranquility & inciting people on divisive lines.
One pertains to Ms Nupur Sharma & other against multiple social media entities," Delhi Police tweeted.

Saba Naqvi is a journalist while Naveen Jindal was BJP's Delhi media cell head before being expelled for his social media remarks against the prophet, which further fuelled the controversy created by Nupur Sharma.

The FIR has been filed by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police against people for "inciting various groups and creating situations that are detrimental to the maintenance of public tranquillity in the country," reported India Today.
