Srinagar: Security forces gunned down three terrorists, including the alleged killer of Police Sub Inspector, in two different encounters in Kashmir valley on Tuesday, officials said.

Two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) including militant Majid Nazir, a suspect behind the killing of Police Sub Inspector Farooq Mir were killed in Tujjan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A bullet riddled body of Police sub Inspector Farooq Mir was recovered from Awantipora sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir on June 18.

The body of Sub-Inspector Mir, resident of Samboora, who was posted with the India Reserve Police (IRP), was recovered in a paddy field in his village.

“JeM terrorist Majid Nazir, Killer of SI Farooq Mir has been neutralised in Pulwama encounter”, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said in a tweet.

One militant was gunned down in an ongoing encounter in Tulibal area of Sopore.

They said the gun battle erupted at Tulibal area of Sopore township in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district during an anti militancy operation following an input about the presence of militants.

"As the joint teams of forces cordoned the suspected spots, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering gunfight during which an unidentified militant was killed," a security official said.

“Police said the security forces were on the job. Further details shall follow”, police said.
