Jammu and Kashmir: LG Manoj Sinha flags off first batch of 4,890 pilgrims for Amarnath Yatra

Jammu: After two years, the first batch of 4,890 Amarnath pilgrims was on early Wednesday flagged off by Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.

The batch left for the cave shrine from Jammu Yatri Niwas.

The pilgrimage was cancelled midway in 2019 in view of law and problem before revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 and in 2020-21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per official figures, for Baltal, 1,140 pilgrims left the base camp in 52 vehicles. For Pahalgam, 3,750 pilgrims left the base camp in 124 vehicles.

Lt Governor Sinha on Tuesday e-inaugurated the Yatri Niwas facility at Ramban from Jammu.

He observed that the picturesque Yatri Niwas spread over 23 kanals was an important stop in the journey of Baba Barfani.

The 43-day Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 11.

“There is a lot of enthusiasm in the people of Jammu region and in Kashmir too. I see the local people are also ready to welcome the visiting pilgrims,” said Sinha.
