Maa Kali's blessings with India: PM Modi's apparent dig at TMC's Mahua Moitra
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday took an apparent dig at Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s firebrand Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra whose reference to goddess Kali as "meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess" stoked a widespread controversy.
During the centenary celebrations of Swami Atmasthananda, who was 15th president of Ramakrishna Math, Modi said, "Swami Ramkrishna Paramhans was a saint who experienced Maa Kaali in front of his eyes."
"Swami Vivekananda had such stature but he used to become like a child in his devotion for Goddess Kaali. Such unwavering faith was also there in Swami Atmasthananda," Modi further said.
The Prime Minister then added, "Maa Kaali's blessings are always with India."
After Modi's reference, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT cell head Amit Malviya took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in a tweet.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks reverentially about Maa Kaali being the center of devotion, not just for Bengal but whole of India. On the other hand, a TMC MP insults Maa Kaali and Mamata Banerjee instead of acting against her, defends her obnoxious portrayal of Maa Kaali...," Malviya tweeted.

Hitting back at Malviya, Moitra dragged BJP's defeat in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections tweeting, "Would advise BJP Troll-In-Charge for Bengal to tell his masters to stop commenting on things they have no clue about.
"Didi O Didi got them the boot. Now Maa O Maa will get them a foot on their chest."

Didi O Didi got them the boot.
Now Maa O Maa will get them a foot on their chest.
Though Kolkata's Dakshineswar Kali Temple has backed Moitra's statement, Banerjee's TMC has already distanced itself from its MP's remark calling it a personal comment.
What is the controversy?
Speaking at the India Today Conclave East 2022, Moitra, who is an MP from West Bengal's Krishnanagar, said Tuesday, "Kaali to me, is a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess. You have the freedom to imagine your goddess.
"There are some places where whiskey is offered to gods and in some other places it would be blasphemy."
The poster of a documentary titled Kaali is creating quite a stir online for showing the Hindu goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette.
It all started after the director, Leena Manimekalai, shared the poster of the film on Twitter.
Super thrilled to share the launch of my recent film - today at @AgaKhanMuseum as part of its “Rhythms of Canada”
