New Delhi/UNI: Congress on Sunday removed former Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat from the list of permanent invitees to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) after blaming him and former leader of opposition in Goa Assembly Michael Lobo for trying to create a split in the party.
"Honourable Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) has removed Shri Digambar Kamat from his current position as Permanent Invitee to Congress Working Committee with immediate effect," the Congress said in a statement.
Party’s in-charge for Goa Dinesh Gundu Rao had last week accused Lobo and Kamat, who was the Congress' chief ministerial candidate in the recently held Goa elections, of hatching a conspiracy with the BJP to make at least eight of 11 Congress MLAs defect to the BJP.
Last week, Lobowas removed from the position of Leader of Opposition of Goa.
Rao had said a conspiracy was hatched by some of our own leaders with the BJP to weaken the party and engineer defections.
Congress also filed a disqualification petition against the two senior leaders with the Speaker of Goa assembly.
