Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned jailed Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's wife Varsha Raut in connection with the money laundering probe in an alleged housing project scam, media reports said.

According to media reports, the summon came hours after Sanjay Raut's custody was extended till August 8 but the date on which Varsha Raut has been asked to appear is not yet known.

The case pertains to an alleged Rs 1,000-crore scam in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in Mumbai's Goregaon.

Four months ago, ED confiscated 11 crores worth of assets of Varsha Raut and two of Sanjay Raut's associates.

Wife of Sujit Patkar, a "close associate" of Sanjay Raut, Swapna Patkar is now a witness in the case.

She alleged that she got a rape and murder threat after turning witness, but Sanjay Raut has refuted the allegation.

The ED alleged in court today that the Raut family received "proceeds of crime" worth over Rs 1 crore for allowing irregularities in the Patra Chawl project.

Sanjay Raut is a Rajya Sabha MP and a close aide of Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray.
