CBI Special Court sends TMC leader Anubrata Mondal to 14-day judicial custody

Kolkata/Asansol: The CBI Special Court on Wednesday remanded Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal to 14-day judicial custody.

Mondal will be produced next on Sept 7.

Mondal was produced in a CBI Special Court in Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district this morning in the alleged cow smuggling case across the border, official sources said.

TMC's Birbhum district unit president Mondal was arrested from his village Nichupatty house on Aug 11 for alleged non-cooperation to CBI's ongoing cross border cattle trafficking scam.

He was arrested after ignoring CBI's ten summons to appear at the Nizam Palace in the city.

He already spent two weeks (10 and 4 days respectively) in the CBI custody after the special court at Asansol remanded the 62-year-old politician under the federal investigation agency.

Meanwhile, a report from Asansol said the Asansol Durgapur Commissionerate Police began an investigation into the alleged threat letter received by Asansol court judge justice Rajesh Chakraborty.

Special CBI Court Judge of Asansol, Rajesh Chakraborty, allegedly received a threat letter from a person, who has threatened him to give bail to Anubrata Mondal or else his (judge) family members will be implicated in a false drugs case.

The judge informed the matter to the West Bardhaman district Court and Calcutta High Court.

The judge received such a letter on Aug 20.

The Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) has started a probe.
