Fatehabad: A 30-year-old woman was killed after being thrown out of a running train for resisting a sex assault by a copassenger in Haryana's Fatehabad, media reports said.

Victim's nine-year-old son related the incident to his father, who found him crying alone in the coach when the train pulled at Tohana town in Fatehabad, accoding to police.

The entire compartment was empty except for three passengers, Fatehbad police chief Astha Modi said, according to media reports.

Seeing the woman travelling alone with a child, the man tried to molest her. When she tried to fight him off, the man pushed the woman out of the running train and jumped out himself, police said quoting the victim's son.

Her husband said she had called on mobile, asking to pick her up from the station when the train was 20 km away.

The woman was living in Rohtak for the past few days and was returning on Thursday to Tohana, 145 km away, with her son.

Police later found her assailant, identified as Deepak, 27. He has been arrested and sent to hospital for treating his injuries sustained after jumping from the train.

The Government Railway Police, or GRP, has filed a first information report.

Police and her family members led a massive search for her body along the railway tracks. They located her body Friday morning after a difficult search  through the night, police said.

Railway police sub-inspector Jagdish at Tohana said they are investigating the case to find if there was a security lapse as the police are supposed to keep an eye on the compartments at night. He said it would be found out who was on duty when the incident happened, the reports added.
