CBI team reaches Goa to take over Sonali Phogat death probe
Panaji: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday reached Goa to take over the Sonali Phogat death case from the Goa Police, media reports said.
The officers of the central investigating agency also took all documents pertaining to the alleged murder from the local police.
Media reports said that the CBI sleuths will also visit Curlie's shack where the BJP leader was partying hours before her death and also the hotel rooms she had booked for staying.
The CBI will also take custody of two of the accused in the case after producing them before the Mapusa session's court.
A CBI team reached Sonali Phogat's residence in Haryana on Friday and spoke to her family members.
Their statement is yet to be recorded, said media reports.
Sonali Phogat murder case
Sonali Phogat, 42, was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district on August 23 morning from her hotel. She died hours after partying at Goa's Curlie's restaurant.
Though initially it was reported that Sonali had died of a heart attack but the postmortem conducted later revealed that there were multiple blunt injuries on her body.
Two of the accused in the case, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, have confessed to having mixed an obnoxious substance in Sonali's drink when she was partying at the restaurant, according to police. She died hours later in her hotel room after consuming the drink.
