CBI files charge sheet in Bengal SSC scam, names ex-minister Partha Chatterjee

Kolkata/UNI: Trinamool Congress heavyweight and former West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee was among 16 persons named in a charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday in a case related to the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam.

The federal probe agency, which is investigating the criminality in the scam following a Calcutta High Court order, filed the charge sheet before the Special CBI Court, Alipore.

Others named in the charge sheet include Santi Prasad Sinha, then advisor at SSC, Samarjit Acharya, then Programme Officer and Saumitra Sarkar, then Chairman of SSC when the scam happened.

Others figuring in the charge sheet include Ashok Kr Saha, then ASC Assistant Secretary and Dr Kalyanmoy Ganguly, then President of Adhoc Committee at West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

Ten candidates who were allegedly illegally appointed to government-aided schools, we're also mentioned in the document.

"The said case was registered on the orders of the High Court of Calcutta. It was alleged that the said accused entered into a conspiracy with one another in order to extend undue advantage in the matter of giving appointment to the unqualified candidates to the posts of Group-C staffs at various schools after expiry of the panel of candidates," the CBI said in a release.

Chatterjee, Sinha, Saha and Ganguly are now in judicial custody after their arrest.

Further investigation with regard to the larger conspiracy and the role of other persons is continuing, the release added.
