UP: Army jawan dies, 7 injured as bus falls into pit

Greater Noida/UNI: An army jawan was killed and seven others were injured when a double-decker bus fell into a pit after hitting a truck on Yamuna Expressway in the Rabupura area of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police said here.

Police said that the incident occurred in the afternoon when the double decker bus going to Ludhiana from Gorakhpur fell into a pit after hitting the loaded truck.

"The bus first hit the truck from the rear side after this it slipped into a pit by breaking the crash beam barrier installed alongside the road," it said.

Police said that Lavi Kumar (28), posted in Dogra Regiment, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital where he succumbed.

"Seven persons, including Kumar's colleague Arun Kumar, were seriously injured in the accident. "The injured have been admitted to the hospital," police said.

Reports said that several other people also sustained minor injuries as around 60 to 65 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. "The passengers were rescued by the police by smashing window panes of the bus," sources said.
