Centre appoints Aramane Giridhar as defence secretary and Sanjay Malhotra revenue secretary

Centre today announced top-level bureaucratic shuffles as it named Road Transport and Highways Secretary Aramane Giridhar as the new defence secretary and Secretary in the Department of Financial Services Sanjay Malhotra as the new revenue secretary.

Giridhar is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

He has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Defence.

He will take over as secretary of the Department of Defence after the retirement of Ajay Kumar on October 31, a personnel ministry order said.

National Highways Authority of India chairperson Alka Upadhyaya will assume the role of road and transport secretary replacing Giridhar.

Secretary in the Department of Financial Services Sanjay Malhotra who has been appointed the new revenue secretary will replace Tarun Bajaj, whose term end on November 30.

Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Revenue.

Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, Vivek Joshi, will be the new secretary, the Department of Financial Services, in place of Malhotra.
