Patna: BJP on Sunday claimed that the results of the Assembly by-polls in Bihar "clearly indicate" that people have rejected the Grand Alliance government of seven parties to such an extent that even Chief Minister Nitish Kumar could not protect his base vote.
Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi said here that BJP successfully protected its base vote in the Gopalganj Assembly Constituency and in Mokama the party polled more than 63000 votes and gave a strong fight to the RJD candidate, wife of Anant Singh, "synonym of terror in Mokama".
He dubbed the victory of the grand alliance in Mokama as the personal victory of Anant Singh, popular as Chhote Sarkar.
Modi said Chhote Sarkar kept on winning the elections in Mokama even after changing political parties but this time his victory margin was reduced to more than half even after JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh campaigned there for the grand alliance.
He claimed the base vote as well as the vote of the extremely backwards shifted to the BJP from Nitish Kumar who has lost his ability to transfer his base vote.
BJP state president Sanjay Jaiswal said that the results of by-elections in Bihar indicate that the state politics is now BJP versus RJD and nationalism versus nepotism has surfaced here too.
Meanwhile, the ruling Grand Alliance ( GA) leaders said that the results of Gopalganj and Mokama indicate that the people have given their mandate against the" hypocrisy and Anti Social Justice politics" of BJP.
Retorting sharply to Modi's remarks, JD(U) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh said he was issuing statements in "sheer frustration". Singh claimed the mandate indicates the love, affection and faith of people in the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejasvi Prasad Yadav.
JD(U) parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha said the election results have strengthened the mission 2024 of Nitish Kumar.
JD(U) State president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said the people of Mokama have expressed their confidence in the Grand Alliance and the leadership of Nitish Kumar. He said that in Gopalganj the RJD candidate gave a strong fight to the BJP contestant which indicates the mood of people in Bihar was against the BJP.
