BJP flays Congress man Jarkiholi's 'Hindu is vulgar word' remark
Bengaluru: The BJP on Monday came down heavily upon Karnataka Congress Working President Satish Jarkiholi's anti-Hindu statement and sought Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's stand on it and asked if his party would take action against him.
"Rahul Gandhi says that he is a Janeudhari Hindu. I want to ask if Rahul Gandhi will act against him (Jarkiholi)? It is only because of the politics of appeasement that such a statement has been made," BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said.
Earlier, Jarkiholi sparked a big controversy after he claimed that 'Hindu' is a vulgar word and on knowing its meaning one would be ashamed.
Speaking at an event organised by Bandhutva Vedike, Jarkiholi said, "Hindu is not an Indian word, but Persian. Then, how can you accept it? This should be debated. You can check WhatsApp and Wikipedia (from where the word comes from)."
"Why has this word been imposed on us? The meaning of the word 'Hindu' is very vulgar. You will be ashamed if you know its meaning," he said.
Further criticising the statement, Poonawala said the basic character of Congress has been anti-Hindu which is reflected in their claims of Hindu terrorism, comparing Bhagavad Gita's teachings to jihad, efforts to disprove existence of Lord Ram and opposing construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
"The anti-Hindu statement of Satish Jarkiholi, who is Karnataka Congress Working President, is a part of the same series. So, it is not surprising that the Congress leader has called 'Hindu' word very vulgar," he said.
"Making anti-Hindu statements is the modus-operandi of the Congress to play appeasement politics, " Poonawala said.
Bengaluru BJP spokesperson S Prakash said it is the habit of the Congress to insult Hindus.
He also likened Jarkiholi to Siddaramaiah who has mastered the strategy of making anti-Hindu comments.
Even JDS leader Tanveer Ahmed termed Jarkiholi's statement as reckless and uncalled for, but claimed it as a handiwork of the BJP.
"There are two sides to it. One this is a careless statement, and two, whether this statement was made by him (Jarkiholi) or have been forced by an external hand sitting in BJP, or has it been forced upon to make this statement by the CBI and ED," he said.
