Hyderabad: IFHE suspends 12 students for ragging a junior student
Hyderabad: ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE), a private deemed-to-be-university, on Saturday night announced the suspension of 12 IBS senior students for ragging a junior student.
In a statement, IFHE Registrar’s office said “ The Institution has acted with alacrity and has taken a decision to suspend all the 12 concerned students with immediate effect”.
“The Institution has Zero Tolerance towards such undesirable acts," the statement added.
The video of ragging went viral on social media where a junior student can be seen being humiliated and thrashed by the senior students from IBS.
According to media reports, the victim filed a complaint with the police on November 11 alleging that he was beaten and sexually assaulted by the group on November 1 in his hostel room, leaving him with grievous injuries. They also made him swallow some chemicals and threatened him.
Earlier, he had also written to the IFHE authorities demanding that a formal complaint of physical assault and threat to life be filed against the accused.
According to the letter, he had made derogatory remarks against the Prophet while chatting with a friend. The other students learned about the remarks after she made the conversation public, the report said.
The incident came to light on Friday after the junior student, shared the video on Twitter by tagging Minister KT Rama Rao and Cyberabad police.
The Shankarpally police yesterday booked a group of students for allegedly ragging a student at ICFAI Business School (IBS), IBS College in Shankarpalli Mandal, on the outskirts of the city.
The accused have been booked under sections 307 for attempt to murder, 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, 450 for trespass in order to commit an offence, 506 for criminal intimidation, and section 34 for the common intention of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The police also reportedly registered a case against the institute for negligence.
