Jail custody of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal extended for another two weeks
Asansol: The current jail custody for incarcerated Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal, accused of cattle smuggling across the West Bengal border to Bangladesh, was extended by another two weeks by a special court order here, official sources here on Friday.
The special CBI court here in West Bardhaman's industrial town, ordered another two weeks extension of the existing jail custody for TMC's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal after the later was produced before the court here,
The CBI on August 11 last has arrested 61-year-old Mondal for his alleged involvement in the cattle heads smuggling case from his village home in Birbhum.
The CBI court judge, Justice Rajesh Chakraborty, after hearing the arguments from the contesting advocates of CBI and Mondal, ordered a fresh 14 days jail custody for the accused person.
However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing the money trails of the cattle trafficking scam, has arrested Mondal from his Asansol jail.
Mondal's counsel Moloy Mukherjee told reporters that during the hearing on Friday here they did not pray for the bail petition of his client for strategic reasons.
He said the charge sheet submitted by the federal agency into the court against his client was supplied on Friday.
