Krishna Janmabhoomi case: UP court orders survey of Shahi Idgah Mosque

Mathura (UP)/IBNS: A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura today ordered the survey of the Shahi Idgah Mosque, said to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, by the Archaeological Survey of India after January 2, media reports said.

The court issued the order in response to a petition filed by Vishnu Gupta of the right-wing outfit Hindu Sena.

The survey will be similar to one conducted in Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Mosque adjacent to the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple. During the survey, a Shivling was found in the mosque.

The survey report of Shahi Idgah Mosque will be submitted after January 20, reports said.

The lawsuit is one of the many filed by several Hindu outfits, who demand the removal of 17th century Shahi Idgah Masjid from the Katra Keshav Dev temple.

They claim that the mosque was built on the birthplace of Lord Krishna, where previously a temple existed.

Vishnu Gupta petitioned in the court seeking a survey of the mosque premises claiming that it was built at the Krishna Janmabhoomi on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1669-70 in the 13.37-acre premises of Katra Keshav Dev temple.
