Kashmir valley braces for snowfall amid below freezing minimum temp

Srinagar/UNI: Meteorological centre forecast of light to Moderate Snowfall on Tuesday even as the minimum temperature shows a drop at most places in Jammu and Kashmir.

Isolated places in Kashmir valley received light Snowfall during the past 24 hours while currently the weather is partly to generally Cloudy at most places with a forecast of light to Moderate Snow/(rain in Jammu) likely from evening Tuesday till January 25. No forecast of any Major Snow Spell, the MeT office said.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.3 degree Celsius on Tuesday against minus 3.4 degree recorded the previous night.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir valley with the minimum temperature plummeting to minus 9.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday against the minus 9.6 degree Celsius a day ago.

Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway had a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius against minus 1.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 8.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday against minus 4.7 degree Celsius the previous night. It also received 0.5 Cms of Snow and 1.7mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830 hours on Monday.

Kokernag recorded a low of minus 3.5 degree Celsius and the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara witnessed a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the MeT office said.
