PM Modi holds meeting on upcoming hot weather, directs fire audits of hospitals
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparedness for hot weather ahead of the summer season and called for preparing awareness material for common citizens, medical professionals, and disaster response teams.
Above-normal temperatures along with heat wave conditions are expected in most parts of India during the three months ending May 31.
The high temperatures bring along the threat of lower crop production while hurting the efforts to control food costs, a Bloomberg report stated.
PM Modi was briefed about the forecast of the monsoon season and its impact on Rabi crops.
He was also informed about the preparedness of medical infrastructure as well as for disasters related to heat and mitigation measures, said a statement from his office.
Last year, India suffered its hottest March in more than a century, scorching the grain harvest that forced the government to curb exports.
Heatwave condition is described as a period of abnormally high temperatures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also been instructed by PM Modi to prepare daily weather forecasts, the statement added.
The Prime Minister has stressed on the need for detailed fire audits of all hospitals.
