President Murmu, PM Modi greet nation on Ambedkar Jayanti

New Delhi/UNI: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders on Friday paid floral tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedakar a social reformer, and the architect of India's Constitution, on his birth anniversary at Parliament House lawn in New Delhi.

Greeting the fellow citizens on the occasion of his 132nd birth anniversary, President Murmu said "BR Ambedkar's basic mantra - Educate, Organize and Struggle to bring the deprived communities to the mainstream of society - will always remain relevant".

"Baba Saheb's faith in the rule of law and commitment to social and economic equality as the backbone of the country's democracy,"she said in her message.

She urged citizens to pledge to adopt Dr. Ambedkar's ideals and continue to work towards creating an egalitarian and prosperous nation and society.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he dedicated his life to the empowerment of the deprived and the exploited sections of society.

The Prime Minister posted an audio clip of his earlier remarks on Ambedkar's life on his Twitter handle.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Former President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla , NCP chief Sharad Pawar and other leaders have also paid floral tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar at Parliament House.

Born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow in Madhya Pradesh Dr Ambedkar was a social reformer who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the oppressed classes in India.

He was also a strong advocate of women's rights and gender equality.

Ambedkar was the first law and justice minister of independent India and also chaired the drafting committee of the constituent assembly.

However, apart from his contribution in framing the Constitution, he had inspired Dalit and Buddhist movements in the country and campaigned against social discrimination.
