Pakistan's Bilawal Bhutto to visit India for SCO foreign minister's meet in Goa

New Delhi: Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will lead the Pakistani delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers's meet to be held on May 4 and 5 in Goa, media reports said.

This will mark the first visit by a top Pakistani leader to India after former Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to New Delhi for the oath ceremony of PM Modi in 2014.

During the 2022 SCO Summit held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, India took over the rotating presidency of the SCO. As the current president, India will be hosting the upcoming summit of the Council of Heads of State later this year.

India has been actively engaged with the SCO since becoming a full member in 2017 and is now concentrating on proposing initiatives that can benefit not only member states but also observers and dialogue partners.

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over a meeting of heads of departments from member states of the SCO responsible for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations.

Shah will also hold bilateral meetings with the ministers of some of the SCO member states.

During the meeting, the delegates from the SCO member states will share information about large-scale emergency situations that have occurred in their respective territories, and the measures taken to handle them will also be discussed.

The SCO member states will discuss and approve an action plan for the implementation of the agreement on cooperation in aiding in the elimination of emergency situations in 2023-2025.

The SCO consists of eight member states including China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
