Mumbai/IBNS: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai on Friday acquitted Bollywood star Sooraj Pancholi in the death by suicide case of actor Jiah Khan, media reports said.

Sooraj, who was the boyfriend of Jiah Khan, has been acquitted due to "paucity of evidence". He was arrested on charges of abetment.

Sooraj was arrested on the basis of a six-page letter purportedly written by Jiah.

Jiah, 25, was found hanging at her home in Mumbai's Juhu on June 3, 2013.

Jiah's mother Rabia Khan had alleged her daughter was murdered and she didn't die of suicide.

Reacting to the judgement, Sooraj wrote in his Instagram story, "The TRUTH Always  Wins!"

Sooraj, the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, could have landed up in jail for 10 years if convicted.

Sooraj was arrested by police in June 2013 and he was out on bail a month later.

Jiah made her film debut in 2007 with Ram Gopal Verma's Nishabd opposite the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.

Later she also featured in Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini and Akshay Kumar's Housefull.
